Did you Catch Us at the Blues Fest?

Columbia Pike Forward - Columbia Pike Blues Fest 2025

This past weekend, we were at the Columbia Pike Blue's Festival, answering the question on everyone's mind: when will construction on Columbia Pike end?

Here are some of our other most frequently asked questions from the Blues Fest:

  • When will construction end?
    • Road work will be done by the end of 2025, and then after that we'll have remaining smaller tasks like landscaping and planting in early 2026
  • Why did it take so long?
    • Before we could implement the street and sidewalk improvements on the above ground, we had to bury, upgrade, and switch over utilities underground, like communication cables, wet utilities, gas lines, and more.
  • What will it look like when it's done?
    • Sidewalks will be a more consistent width throughout the corridor; lanes will be reconfigured for a smoother travel experience on bus and by car; upgraded bus stops
    • For a sneak peak, take a look at where the project has been completed on Columbia Pike by Harris Teeter, or by the County line near the Pike sculpture
  • Do buses run on the Pike?
    • Oh yes! ART bus has 5 routes that serve Columbia Pike and connect to 7 Metro stations, and Metrobus is about to get a whole new makeover starting June 29

Sidewalk Work Between S. Edgewood St. and S. Cleveland St.

Crews will be working on the sidewalk on the south side of Columbia Pike between South Edgewood Street and South Cleveland Street, starting this week, through mid July.

During this work, the right hand eastbound lane will close to accommodate foot traffic, and planks will be placed across the sidewalk work to access retail locations, including Botanica and those to the east. (2700 Columbia Pike will be accessible through their parking lot behind their building.)

Learn more about work on Segment D between South Garfield Street and South Courthouse Road on the Segment D page.

12 Days Until the Metrobus Redesign Rolls Into Effect

We're less than two weeks away from Metro's redesign of the Metrobus network. Are you ready for your new ride?

No, I missed it. What's going on?

Starting on June 29, WMATA is rolling out its redesigned Metrobus network throughout the region. All Metrobus routes will have new names, many will have new destinations, and some stops will be consolidated.

That's a big deal! How do I prepare?

Try these tips from WMATA:

  1. Watch the new tutorial video and try the updated Trip Planner
  2. Check out the new bus network route and system maps on the Better Bus website
  3. Look out for updated signs at your local bus stops to see what your new route is called

What about ART buses?

Arlington's ART bus service and stops will not change as part of WMATA's redesign. So if your usual bus is green and white, like ART 45, your route and stops will stay the same.

Learn all about it at WMATA.com/betterbus.
