WORLD REFUGEE DAY 5X MATCH

Hi there, I want to quickly introduce myself — my name is Amy and I am the Director of Refugee and Migrant Rights at Amnesty International USA.

Right now, I’m writing from the comfort of my home, and I hope you’re reading it from an equally safe place. Unfortunately, this sense of safety is a far cry from what many are experiencing right now.

This week marks World Refugee Day and a chance to make a 5x matched donation to help the over 120 million people who are forcibly displaced worldwide. Donate now »

YOUR GIFT GOES 5X AS FAR TO HELP REFUGEES WHO HAVE NOWHERE TO TURN. | MATCH MY GIFT 5X

Let me take a step back — Amnesty International is one of the leading human rights monitors shining a light on refugee crises around the world. We expose violations and advocate for urgent change. But we can only do this with the support of generous and caring people like you. People who refuse to turn away in moments like these.

Right now, millions of refugees and displaced people fleeing danger need more people to stand up to protect their rights, their safety, and their lives. Especially now, as an increasing number of world leaders are turning their backs and even demonizing them.

  • In places experiencing extreme crises like Gaza and Sudan, people fleeing violence are starving as famine conditions worsen and humanitarian aid is nowhere in sight.
  • For displaced people in Syria and Venezuela, violence and instability have done unspeakable harm — we’ve documented torture and other ill treatment of children in Venezuela1, and millions of people in both countries have had to flee their homes.
  • In the U.S., the Trump administration is blatantly violating human rights by shutting down the refugee program, detaining and deporting asylum-seekers and people who have already been granted protections, and implementing a harmful travel ban, forcing people in a dozen countries to remain in life-threatening situations.

No matter the circumstance, no one should be denied the right to seek safety. We must collectively act to end these abuses immediately.

Before Amnesty’s once-a-year World Refugee Day 5X match ends, make a gift that will be multiplied by FIVE to protect the rights of refugees and other people seeking safety around the globe.

People leave their homes because they have no other choice. They want the same safety that any of us would want if we were in their shoes. Yet they are often demonized, criminalized, held in cruel conditions, and returned to danger. This injustice must be stopped.

With your help today, our movement can continue to lead the charge against efforts to persecute refugees and people seeking safety in the U.S. and around the world.

Your gift will go FIVE times as far to strengthen advocacy efforts like fighting back against Trump’s cruel asylum and refugee bans, and budget plans, freeing people who have been unlawfully detained, and demanding governments uphold the rights of refugees and people seeking safety.

Your gift will go FIVE times as far to document human rights violations against refugees — from Syria to Ukraine and beyond — and demand accountability for leaders who seek to deny the right to safety.

Your donation will go FIVE times as far to mobilize grassroots activists to mount pressure to release people at risk in the U.S. — and demand legislative action to protect displaced people, refugees, and asylum-seekers worldwide.

Thank you for answering the call to act. I’m so glad to do this work alongside people like you.
