Getting a Grip on Gun Violence in Virginia
Survivors of domestic violence deserve a fear-free life, but when guns are present, they are at increased risk of violence and death. According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions, in 2021, 115 people in Virginia lost their lives to domestic violence-related homicides; 64% of those deaths were by firearm. The simple fact is that when a gun is present in a household experiencing abuse, no matter who the gun belongs to, the risk of homicide increases significantly. Survivors deserve safety and protection. June is #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth.
