Maintaining adult friendships is hard work, as a new trend piece seems to point out every few weeks. Just ask the president of the United States and his now ex-ally Tucker Carlson, who have fallen out over the former’s bellicose vibes amid Israel’s ongoing bombing of Iran. Across the pond, Rebekah Vardy, tabloid villain of the Wagatha Christie saga a few years back, has also found grown-up social dynamics occasionally tough sledding, though she tells Vanity Fair she’s moving on.
Elsewhere today: an oral history of SNL’s “Domingo”; the best TV of the year so far; and an update on the “big, beautiful” spending bill. More tomorrow… |
The four words, when they arrived across social media platforms in October 2019, landed more explosively than their author could have hoped. Coleen Rooney, the wife of retired British soccer star Wayne, was trying to get to the bottom of who had been leaking the contents of her private Instagram account to The Sun. She blocked all of the accounts following her except her suspect’s. When the tabloid continued to report on her posts, she arrived at her now notorious conclusion:
“It’s ……….Rebekah Vardy’s account.”
Almost six years later, the UK tabloid superstar has a few more thoughts on the affair that she says she has moved on from: “I think murderers and pedophiles have faced far less scrutiny than I did,” Vardy said. |

Who is Domingo, you ask? He is the irresistible and eccentric horndog at the center of this season’s most viral Saturday Night Live sketch. Marcello Hernández plays the titular character, whose exploits are detailed via a spirited, bespoke rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s summer earworm “Espresso.” By the end of the season, “Domingo: Bridesmaid Speech” was officially the season’s most-watched sketch on social media, earning 171 million total views, according to NBC.
Marcello Hernández, Pedro Pascal, Molly Shannon, and more reveal the origin story behind this sensation. |
