This week, Readerlink expanded into library distribution with its acquisition of Baker & Taylor—the fourth time the wholesaler has changed hands in less than 10 years. A judge pulled the brakes on Anthropic’s proposed $1.5 billion settlement with rightsholders in their class action copyright suit, saying that too many details about how the money would be distributed were still up in the air. This year’s National Book Award nominees have been announced in the categories of young people’s literature, translated literature, poetry, nonfiction, and fiction, with the finalists to be named next month. An appeals court temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s attempts to remove Shira Perlmutter as register of copyrights. And, in a win for the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, another appeals court upheld an injunction against the Trump administration’s attempted gutting of the institution.

The National Book Foundation has unveiled the longlists for the 2025 National Book Awards. The five finalists in each category will be named on October 7, and winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony in New York City on November 19. more
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has granted an injunction pending appeal, allowing the register of copyrights to remain in her position despite the Trump administration’s efforts to fire her. more
The First Circuit denied a request by defendants in Rhode Island v. Trump to stay a preliminary injunction, protecting the Institute of Museum and Library Services and two more federal agencies for now. more
