| Parents of Milford teen detained by ICE set to appear for summons Tuesday |
The parents of a Milford, Massachusetts, teen who was detained by ICE Friday and later released are due to appear for a summons on Tuesday. Gustavo Enrique De Oliveira was detained last Friday by ICE agents and then released later that day from custody. The Department of Homeland Security said that he was not the intended target, saying they were targeting two other undocumented people. Family members said that Oliveira was leaving a bakery in downtown Milford when agents approached — he attempted to get away but was caught. His father said that he was pinned to the ground and taken away in a dark SUV. |

Israel's military says its expanded operation in Gaza City has begun and warns residents to leave |
The Israeli military began a ground offensive targeting Gaza City on Tuesday, slowly squeezing in on the Palestinian territory’s largest city that has seen block after block already destroyed in the Israel-Hamas war. Residents still in the city were warned they must leave and head south. The push marks yet another escalation in a conflict that has roiled the Middle East as any potential ceasefire feels even further out of reach despite months of diplomacy. While the military wouldn’t offer a timeline for the offensive, Israeli media outlets suggested it could take months. Earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that “Gaza is burning” while independent experts commissioned by the United Nations’ Human Rights Council announced that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, joining a rising international chorus of such accusations. |

| UN-commissioned human rights experts accuse Israel of committing genocide in Gaza |
A team of independent experts commissioned by the United Nations’ Human Rights Council has concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, issuing a report Tuesday that calls on the international community to end the genocide and take steps to punish those responsible for it. The deeply-documented findings by the three-member team are the latest accusations of genocide against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government by rights advocates as Israeli carries on with its war against Hamas in Gaza that has killed tens of thousands of people. Israel rejected what it called a “distorted and false” report. The Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel, which was created four years ago, has repeatedly documented alleged human rights abuses and violations both in Gaza since the deadly Oct. 7, 2023, attacks in Israel led by Hamas, and other Palestinian areas. |

| Trump files $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times |
President Donald Trump filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times, four of its journalists and Penguin Random House on Monday, according to court documents. The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Middle District of Florida, which covers the area where Trump resides outside the White House, names several articles and one book written by two of the publication’s journalists and published in the lead up to the 2024 election, saying they are “part of a decades-long pattern by the New York Times of intentional and malicious defamation against President Trump.” The lawsuit accused the newspaper of attempting to ruin his reputation as a businessman, sink his campaign and prejudice judges and juries against him in coverage of his campaign. |

Tracking more fall-like temperatures and a little bit of rain on the way |
We’ve started this Tuesday with some patchy fog here and there. Otherwise, as we move through the morning, we’ll see a mix of clouds and sunshine. The sea breeze will likely keep high temperatures in Boston and along the coast in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Communities away from the water will see highs in the low to mid 70s this afternoon. Later tonight, we’ll see mostly cloudy skies and low temperatures in the mid 50s. Temperatures will be very fall-like on Wednesday, with highs in the low to mid 70s. An area of low pressure to our south will move north, giving way to partly sunny skies and a chance of sprinkles/showers, mainly south toward Buzzard’s Bay, the Cape and the Islands. A shower or two could push north toward Greater Boston, though. |
