Today we highlight two sides of Donald Trump. The first is Mr Trump as wall builder. Although America’s stockmarkets are soaring, his trade protectionism and crackdown on immigration are already causing economic pain. The real damage, our leader argues, will be in the longer term.

The second is Mr Trump as dealmaker. Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace plan that he devised. There is still much to do to achieve the “lasting PEACE” that Mr Trump promises, as our briefing explains. But the agreement is a start.
