Roadrunner Giving Campaign
The Roadrunner Giving Campaign is our annual no-fuss direct donation fundraiser! 100% of RGC donations are reinvested into our school to benefit students and staff! ANY amount helps our school (and donations are fully tax-deductible)!
We have two wonderful raffle opportunities for families that donate! If you donate $250 or more by 10/31/25 you will be entered into the Assistant Principal for the Day raffle and if you donate $400 or more by 10/31/25 you will be entered into the Principal for the Day raffle!

Winter Coat Drive October 14th-24th!
The GFES Winter Coat Drive starts next week! We are collecting new and gently used clean coats in all sizes for children and adults. The greatest need this year is for children’s coats, newborn – teen sizes, and very large women’s and men’s coats 2XL+. All donations will be distributed at the Hunter Mill District Coat Closet. Donations will be collected from Tuesday, October 14 – Friday, October 24. The collection boxes will be located outside the main entrance to the school and in the main lobby. Help those in need this winter by giving the gift of warmth. Every donation makes a difference! Thank you for your generous support.
PTA Meeting - October 15th at 10:30am
Our first PTA Meeting is next Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30am in the GFES library! Our guest speaker will be Jen Roberts! She will be talking all things technology and will be ready to answer your questions about ParentVUE, Benchmark, and more! We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
Math Olympiad
The Math Olympiad program is dedicated to developing advanced problem-solving skills and fostering a love for mathematics through participation in national competitions! If you are interested in being part of Math Olympiad, please fill out the Math Olympiad Interest Form by Monday October 13th! An information meeting will be held in October! Fall Festival - Saturday, October 25th!
SAVE THE DATE! This year's Fall Festival will be Saturday, October 25th from 1 - 5pm! Tickets are $12 per person if purchased in advance online ($14 in person), and all attendees ages 4 and up are required to have a ticket! We will have many fun games, crafts, activities, food trucks, and more planned for this year's festival! We can't wait to see you there!
As with all PTA Events, Fall Festival is NOT A DROP OFF EVENT. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

2025-2026 Reflections Contest
Calling student artists of all kinds! The Reflections contest is now accepting submissions for the 2025-2026 competition in the categories of Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. This year’s theme is “I Belong!” and all GFES students are invited to create an original piece to submit through this 50+ year-old program that promotes creativity and artistic literacy.

Parents Night Out!
On Friday, December 5th the PTA will be offering its first Parents Night Out! Drop off the kids for a night of fun while you have an evening off. Parents Night out will be from 6-9pm at the school. $44 for the first child, $34 for each additional child. Register for the event HERE!
National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To help develop a common understanding of Bullying, below is the FCPS definition.
Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”
For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation, please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something that is going on at school, please contact the front office so that they can support you and, most importantly, your student.
Disability History and Awareness Month
October is Disability History and Awareness Month in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Activities are held throughout the state to provide an opportunity to create greater public awareness for individuals with disabilities with the goal of full inclusion in our community.

Shake Shack Spirit Event!
Thank you so much to all of the families who joined us for our October spirit event at Shake Shack! It was so wonderful seeing so many families, whether you were dining in or taking out!
