Greets SoCo Nation!
As we dive into Spirit Week, our hallways are practically glowing with Stallion pride. The laughter, creativity, and unity on display are a powerful reminder that South County’s spirit isn’t just an event—it’s the heartbeat of our school. This week, our students and staff are like a roaring bonfire—each spark of energy, each smile, and each act of support adding warmth and light that remind us why SoCo is such a special place to be. Let’s keep that fire burning bright as we celebrate who we are—one school, one community, one incredible Stallion family!
Student and Staff Belonging
Fairway to Victory! Golfer Kamryn Garg was on par-fect form yesterday, finishing 3rd in the region with a score of one under par! Her impressive performance has earned her a well-deserved spot in next week’s state tournament. Congratulations, Kamryn—your hard work is really driving success!
Chorus Delivers "Night on Broadway" Spectacle!
Our students brought the house down this past Tuesday during the annual "Night on Broadway and Desserts" concert. Under the direction of AJ Rodriguez, the show featured a powerful collaboration between the South County Middle School and High School choirs. The evening highlighted classic and modern Broadway favorites, including show-stopping numbers from Annie Get Your Gun, Grease, Wicked, and Hamilton.
Power in Pink! This week’s Dig Pink volleyball games were a stunning display of skill and spirit as all SoCo teams triumphed over AC at home. The freshmen won in two sets, JV battled through three, and varsity sealed the night with a four-set victory. The Stallions played with unity and strength like a perfectly tuned symphony—each player contributing to a powerful, winning rhythm.

Twirling Toward Greatness! South County junior Mary Moore continues to make SoCo proud the number one ranked national baton twirler for her age group who has represented Team USA in four world championships across Europe. Her exceptional talent recently caught the attention of the FCPS Media team, who will feature her in an upcoming article highlighting her amazing skills. Mary shines with the South County Marching Band, wowing the crowd on the football field with her creative and dazzling routines. The accompanying photos perfectly capture her energy, precision, and athleticism in action. Mary’s achievements bring joy and pride to the SoCo community, showing that our Stallions truly sparkle on every stage!

Power Puff Packed a Punch! A big shout-out to our Power Puff coaches and teams for an incredible showing—your energy and dedication really kicked things into high gear! Seniors and sophomores came out on top, with the Class of 2028 and Class of 2026 taking home the wins. Thank you to all the coaches who volunteered their time to make this event such a success:
- Mr. Santora & Mr. Kingston (Class of 2029)
- Mr. Crichton & Ms. Maher (Class of 2028)
- Ms. Blesi & Mrs. Dellavedova (Class of 2027)
- Ms. Naghmi & Mr. Echols (Class of 2026)
It was an absolute blast to watch the Stallions bring their A-game!
High Quality Instruction
Revolutionary Ideas on Display! Brad Smith’s Dual Enrollment US History students brought the Revolutionary War to life by posting their group projects in the hallways for everyone to see. Each display showcased creativity, teamwork, and a deep understanding of our nation’s founding moments. Walking through the halls feels like stepping back in time—full of insight, energy, and Stallion pride!
School Culture
Soaring to New Heights! Tyler’s Eagle Scout project has truly elevated our school community by bringing brand-new high-top tables to the downstairs A-Hall locker bay. Through his leadership and hard work, he guided the project from vision to reality, showing what it means to take initiative and serve others. These tables now provide students with a comfortable space to gather, collaborate, and recharge between classes. Tyler’s effort is like a sturdy bridge—connecting creativity, teamwork, and community in one lasting impact!
Spirit Squad Extraordinaire! A huge thank-you to SGA sponsor Kelley Peck and her incredible students for filling Spirit Week with energy, creativity, and Stallion pride. From the colorful hallway decorations to the fun-filled activities and themed days (like Y2K Day with Mr. V. depicted below), their hard work has made this week unforgettable for everyone. The excitement and joy they’ve brought to our school are truly contagious, lighting up every corner of SoCo.
Stallions Making Headlines! We are so proud of this year’s football team for their hard work, determination, and outstanding performance on the field! A special shout-out goes to Dylan Miller (QB) and Thomas Powell (WR) for their incredible play featured on this week’s VHSL Top Plays segment. You can watch the highlight on VHSL’s social media accounts, mobile app, or homepage—and reshare it too: https://x.com/VHSL_ Way to represent SoCo pride and excellence, Stallions!
Going for Gold! A huge thank-you to everyone who supported the Gold Outs this year! Together, our South County community raised $3,493 for the Emma Jordon Kidz Fighting Cancer Foundation and helped spread awareness for childhood cancer. Check out the attached photos from the four events to see our Stallions making a difference! We thank Elena Jordan and her team for their outstanding efforts to raise awareness and funding.
Coach's Corner
A focus at SOCO is helping students set meaningful academic goals. We can all take part in the conversation with students by discussing their aspirations, both short-term and long-term, and helping them break down larger goals into smaller, actionable steps. Celebrate their progress towards these goals, no matter how small. This collaborative approach to goal setting empowers students to take ownership of their learning and vision for their future.
Club Corner:
South County High School’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society has big plans for the school year. This nationally recognized honor society is led by student officers Rebecca Johnson, Violet Teague, Jackson Flint, Mary Moore, and Nicole Cousins. This powerhouse team will lead our 100 student members as they serve the South County community through music. Plans include performances of the National Anthem for Winter sporting events, Jolly Jukebox during December lunches, performances at the local assisted living facility, plus some surprises during March Music in Our Schools Month.
The year will kick off with our induction ceremony on November 6 where we will welcome our new members.
Latest information from our School Nutrition Services (SNS): October/November 2025 Office of Food & Nutrition Services newsletter.
Speaking of our SNS, did you know that National School Lunch Week is from October 13 to October 17? This week is a celebration of the federal National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which provides millions of children with a nutritious meal each school day. Last school year, FNS served over 13 million lunches to students! This year’s NSLW theme is “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport.” National School Lunch Week is the perfect time to learn more about building a healthy school meal.
As we close out this week, remember we’re not just SoCo, we’re SoCool!
