Principal’s Message to Families
Dear Ravensworth Family,
Our first full week of October has been busy with our STEAM Rocket Launch and opportunities for our students to lead by adding their voices to our lessons.
Ravensworth Elementary participated in the Nationwide Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Rocket Launch Across America. This was spearheaded by our fearless Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Andrea Trumbull. Our students gathered on Thursday afternoon to complete their mission by blasting their rockets into space. This wasn’t just about rockets! It also sparked curiosity and creativity while engaging in a STEAM learning experience. Did you know that the rockets even had sensors attached to them so the students could measure their rocket’s speed and height? Thank you to Ms. Trumbull and all our staff who helped to make this memorable experience one that will inspire our kids to dream bigger and explore what’s possible.
The Ravensworth SCA met this past Tuesday, and our class representatives are promoting healthy living this month. The SCA representatives are teaching lessons in their classes to develop awareness and promote healthy choices. The SCA is encouraging all students to wear red on October 17th to promote healthy living.
Our students are wrapping up their first Benchmark Unit. Please ask your child to share the unit Benchmark magazine that will be coming home. This includes ideas to help connect learning in the classroom with home.
Please remember that this Monday, October 13th, is a student holiday in honor of Indigenous People’s Day.
Enjoy your long weekend together!
Shannon Mueck
Ravensworth Interim Principal

National School Lunch Week - Celebrating the Power of School Lunches |
National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is an annual celebration from October 13 to October 17, 2025, dedicated to recognizing the vital role that school meals play in nourishing students across the country. The theme this year is “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport” to inspire curiosity, cultural appreciation, and adventure through food.
Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.
This School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.
