Gearing Up for Homecoming and Recognizing Classroom Excellence

What a fantastic way to kick off our Homecoming festivities! We celebrated the spirit of FHS today with our HOCO Court Assembly. It was amazing to recognize our dynamic royalty, celebrate with their families, and hear all about their incredible contributions to the FHS community. The most meaningful part was having each candidate highlight a specific staff or teacher member who impacted their FHS experience—it was truly PAWSome.

Remember, next week is packed with spirit and fun! Get ready for Spirit Week, Homecoming events with fun games, The Pep Rally, hallway decorating, our Parade, our Game, and The Dance—MAMA MIA, it sounds like so much fun!

Learning In Action

It was great to visit some classes this week and see students deeply engaged in learning across the curriculum:

  • In Mr. Clemons' class, students were learning about Egyptian government and the powerful impact of a dynasty
  • Ms. Jones' FACS class was perfectly aligned with my Fairfax Fun Poll as they used pumpkin to make delectable snickerdoodles—the smell was wonderful!
  • Our CTE Business pathway courses are ready to ROAR this Monday at their DECA competition. These students were engaged in test prep, role-playing finance simulations, and doing deep research into the success behind some of our most famous entrepreneurs.
  • I had the unique opportunity to pose for a figure drawing in Ms. Dilatush's class and was so impressed with these early art skills. I cannot wait to see the continued development!
  • Ms. Akhtar's students shared with me some unique vocabulary and speaking skills they were demonstrating to master their English Language goals.

Remember there is no school on Monday. We look forward to celebrating with everyone next week!

FCPS Cares Gisele Gray

The FCPS CARES Program allows parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community. We invite you to submit a story below to acknowledge the great work of an FCPS employee or group of employees who should receive FCPS CARES recognition.

We are proud to recognize Gisele Gray as the CARES of the Month winner for July/August 2025! Ms. Gray is the Community Use Specialist at FHS, and was able to problem-solve much-needed meeting space at the last-minute!

"Her positive attitude and ability to calmly accommodate us de-escalated a stressful and complex situation and allowed our staff to adjust to the new plan. Gisele is routinely cited by Instructional Services staff as being incredibly helpful in her role. We are lucky to have her at Fairfax High School and in FCPS."

Congratulations, Gisele, well deserved!!

Do you want to nominate an outstanding employee? Please visit the FCPS CARES website.
