On Friday, our kindergartners visited Shlagel Farm to learn all about how our food is grown. It was a beautiful day for both learning and playing.
News from the Fox Den

A Message from Ms. Consolla
What a wonderful busy week it's been in the Fox Den!
Have you heard about All School Morning Meeting? We had our third one this past Wednesday where we did an echo chant in silly voices called "Boom Chicka Boom" with Mr. McQuillen. We also practiced our quiet signal and learned two new ways to greet friends.
We have our next Early Release Wednesday coming up this week. Students will dismiss at 12:40pm, and we will follow the same dismissal plans as our last ER Wednesday back in September. We alternate our AM and PM class schedules each time so that there is a balance of instruction across the year.
Our Fall Fest is just around the corner on Friday, October 24, and your help is needed! It's an amazing Fort Hunt event that requires everyone to pitch in. Please click here to sign up to volunteer a few minutes of your time. All volunteers can help AND have time to enjoy Fall Fest with their family.
Even though schools will be closed for instruction on Monday, many (including Fort Hunt) are open for meals. Please see the note below for more information and participating schools that might be closer to your home. Also note that families can apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits anytime during the school year. If a family’s income changes at any point, they may become newly eligible according to federal income guidelines and can apply immediately. This includes income interruptions caused by furloughs, layoffs, or job losses.
As always, thank you for your partnership with us in your child's education at Fort Hunt.

Reminders for this Week
There is no school on Monday as we observe Indigenous Peoples' Day. Our dedicated teachers will be participating in professional development that day, continually working to hone their skills for our students. Also, this coming Wednesday will be a 3-hour early release for students. Dismissal is at 12:40pm.

We’re excited to share that our school will be offering lunch and a snack at no cost to children aged 18 and under on Monday, October 13. As a reminder, all FCPS schools will be closed for students and school staff on October 13 in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Here’s what you need to know:
- Lunch and a snack will be served together from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Meals must be eaten on site at participating schools. Fort Hunt is a participating school as are many others closer to where students might live. Check out the link.
- Enrichment activities will be available for children. Participation is encouraged but not required.
- Only children 18 and under may receive meals.
- Each child may receive one lunch and one snack.
We are proud to support our students’ health and well-being, even on days when school is not in session. We hope that many of our families will take advantage of this opportunity. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services at 703-813-4800.
