Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,
This week, 2nd graders were deep into their work with Benchmark as they read in small groups and completed rotations with their teachers. In PE, students were tracking their heartrates as the completed their physical fitness testing and 5th grade students are preparing their Rube Goldberg devices for testing on Friday.
Please be sure to review the message that went out to families today about arrival and dismissal traffic. The same message is repeated in this newsletter. Safe driving in school zones is important for student safety. When traffic peaks on Flint Hill Road, it may be necessary for drivers to take a right turn out of Kiss & Ride so that buses and other vehicles can reach our arrival and dismissal zones. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
There are new ways to get involved at FHES including a new flag project in our gym, outstanding employee award nominations, Veterans Day, PTA Dining for Dollars, Reflections and more.
Lastly, don't forget to check out the wrapping paper sale with Charleston Wrap. FHES will receive 40% of the proceeds from the sale. Wrapping paper and other items are available online from now until October 24th.
Kindly,
Mr. Montaquila, Principal
Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal
Safety is always a priority in all operations at FHES. Arrival and dismissal are busy times at FHES for students, families, and staff. We are aware of traffic delays on Vale Rd and are working with FCPS offices for resolutions to the delays. Current crossing guards and school staff are not permitted to direct traffic.
Please be aware of the following notes regarding school arrival and dismissal.
- During peak traffic times, Kiss and Ride traffic may be required to make a right turn only out of K&R so that families and busses can access our drop-off lanes.
-
Safe driving (following directions, low speed, and drivers free from distractions) is important for children’s safety.
-
Appropriate interactions with K&R staff are required. Yelling at school staff, ignoring directions or “road rage” endangers students, families, and staff in our transportation areas.
-
Walking to school will help reduce daily school traffic. Please consider this option if it applies to your family.
- Students can access FHES via Rambling Road and Lindel Lane (weather dependent).
- If you are eligible for bus transportation, please consider this option to ensure on-time arrivals and reduce traffic.
Thank you for considering these notes and how they may apply to your family.
Help us proudly showcase school spirit and community by donating a college/university flag to display in Flint Hill’s gymnasium! This is a creative way to celebrate and decorate our gym, while providing the opportunity for students to showcase school spirit and explore future paths.
You are welcome to donate a flag that represents:
- A college or university parents or family members attended
- A fan favorite or future aspiration school
- We’d also love to include military branch flags as part of our display. These flags help us honor service members and celebrate the diversity of our community
Flag Drop-Off:
Other Information:
- Current and “official” school flags only, please
- Donated flags SHOULD NOT represent professional sports teams
Thank you for helping us create a colorful and inspiring celebration of learning, service and sense of community!
