Additional parking is available on the west parking lot, and at West Falls Church Metro on the Orange Line.

Military Road Roundabout Project Update

Military Road - New Sidewalk - October 2025

Crews are getting ready to progress to the next phase of the Military Road Safety Improvements project.

What Happens Next?

In late October or early November, Nelly Custis Road will reopen, and crews will shift to the south end of the intersection on Military Road. The new sidewalks are open and will remain open during the next phase.

Unlike the current phase, the Military Road closure is expected to last approximately 45 days, as weather permits. More information will follow as start dates are established.

To prepare for this traffic shift, the project team is installing a temporary signal at Lorcom Lane and Nelly Custis Road. The stops for ART 56 will relocate to the eastbound and westbound sides of the the 4100 block of Nelly Custis Road.

"No Thru Traffic" signs will remain in place through the completion of the next phase of work. Please obey all posted signs and barriers to keep yourself and others safe. Crosswalks are available to detour around closed sidewalks.

And Then What Happens After That?

The project also involves utility work, which will happen in coordination with utility companies. This work will begin in early 2026, and is expected to be completed in summer of 2027.
