Bonita Lestina Old Town Performance Series Begins Oct. 17
Join us for the season opener of the Bonita Lestina Old Town Performance Series from 8-9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Sherwood Center.
The award-winning Larnell Starkey and the Spiritual Seven, founded in 1969 and composed of members of the Starkey family, are often referred to as the "Gospel Temptations." You don't want to miss their show!
The OTPS is supported by the City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts, and this concert is partially supported by the Virginia Commission on the Arts.

Attend the Budget Open House, Oct. 21
City residents and business owners are invited to attend an open house to provide feedback on fiscal year 2027 budget priorities. The open house will be held 4-7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Sherwood Center.
Attendees can speak directly with city staff and learn about city services. Feedback gathered during the event will help inform the mayor and city council.

The City of Fairfax is introducing standardized trash and recycling carts for all households that receive curbside collection.
Not sure which cart size is the best fit for your household? Come to our Carts Open House from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Sherwood Center.
See the new carts in person, try them out, and compare the available sizes. City staff will be available to answer questions, help you evaluate which size works best for your home, and guide you through the request process.

Presentations and Proclamations
- Mayor Catherine Read presented proclamations acknowledging October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month and honoring Didlake, Inc. on its 60th Anniversary in the city; October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and Oct. 15 as Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day in the City of Fairfax.
- Members of the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department presented a check to the city in the amount of $250,000 toward the refurbishment of the tower ladder truck, which is included in the FY 2026 Capital Improvement Program.

- Approved, unanimously, to schedule a public hearing on a proposed resolution requesting that the General Assembly amend the city charter relating to the levy of the transient occupancy tax; the election of the mayor, city council, and school board; and compensation of members of boards and commissions.

- Held a public hearing for consideration of a special use permit to allow expansion of government use, in a joint redevelopment agreement between the city and Fairfax County, for a health and community Center at 3740 Blenheim Blvd. (proposed Willard-Sherwood Health and Community Center). - Approved, unanimously, that the city council defer action on an ordinance amending the city code pertaining to a prohibition on the possession, carrying, or transportation of firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof, in city buildings or facilities, on public property or at certain public events, to a date certain of Oct. 28, 2025.
