A Message from Principal Goldstein

Sam Goldstein

Dear Fairview Families,

I’m excited to share that our first school fundraiser of the year kicks off next week — our Fall Online Auction! The auction will open at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, and run through 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26.

This event is a wonderful way to support our school while having some fun bidding on fantastic items. We have over 100 prizes, including gift cards from local restaurants, family activities, and some amazing staff donations you won’t want to miss! Check them out here:

https://app.givebacks.gives/fairviewpta2025/

Proceeds from the auction go directly toward meeting the needs of our school — supporting teachers, funding PTA family events, enhancing classroom resources, and creating memorable experiences for our students.

Your participation helps us continue to provide enriching opportunities for our students and staff. Stay tuned for more details and the auction link coming soon — and get ready to start bidding next Wednesday!

As a reminder, Monday, October 20, is a school holiday for Diwali, and all schools and offices are closed.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Samantha Goldstein

Volunteer FCPS Program Update

We’re excited to share that over 140 volunteers have already signed up to support our school through the new FCPS Volunteer Program — and 38 have already completed the process!

If you initially applied for Level 1 or 2 and would like to volunteer for a field trip, you can log back into your account, change your application to Level 3, and resubmit.

If you’ve applied for Level 3, please note that final approval may take 6–8 weeks from the county. However, you can still volunteer at school and on field trips while your application is pending or if you’re still completing the steps.

If you have any questions about your Volunteer Application, please reach out to our Family Liaison, Laura Leonetti, at Lkleonetti@fcps.edu or 571-595-0843.

Thank you to all our incredible volunteers for your patience and support as we implement this new process!

AAP Family Night Information Slides

Slides from AAP Family Information Night are now available on the Fairview AAP website. You will also find links to Subject Specific, Part Time and Full Time to referral forms there.

Full-Time AAP Services Eligibility

Decisions for AAP Full-Time services are made by a countywide central screening committee. There are specific screening cycles for Full-Time services:

  • Spring Screening: The deadline to refer 2nd – 6th graders for spring screening is December 15. Please submit this form to Alisa Pappas

Important: Please do not wait for ability test scores before submitting a referral for your child in Grades 2-7. Referrals submitted after the deadlines will not be accepted. These referrals can also be found in many languages on the FCPS AAP Website.

Lightspeed Student Online Activity Reports for All Families

Starting October 12, 2025, all parents and caregivers with Records Access in SIS will automatically get a weekly email summarizing their student’s online activity.

  • This is a great way for families to have a conversation with their student about being a good digital citizen and using technology responsibly.
  • Many of the reports should highlight the websites frequently used at Fairview: Clever, ST Math, Lexia, Benchmark, Schoology, and Myon.
  • These reports will be sent to the email addresses on file in SIS. If a family prefers not to receive the weekly emails, they can easily opt out by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email.

For more information, families can visit the FAQ section on the Lightspeed Parent Report page on the FCPS website.

Attention all Volunteers/Room Parents/Field Trip Volunteers

Ensuring Student Safety: Register for Volunteer FCPS at Fairview, our volunteers are a vital part of our school community. We deeply value the time and care they give to our students.

Recent updates to our volunteer process focus on one primary goal: keeping students safe.

These updates — such as checks against the sex offender registry and, in some cases, criminal background checks — are safety measures that will help us maintain a secure and supportive learning environment for every student in our care.

We encourage all our parents and community members interested in supporting our students by volunteering at school to visit [Volunteer FCPS], click “Learn More,” and then “Sign Up.” After you create a profile, you will view an orientation video and complete a volunteer application.

Volunteer FCPS ensures a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. All volunteers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS. This includes individuals who volunteer to chaperone on field trips, work at book fairs, and help out regularly in classrooms, libraries, or cafeterias. Volunteers who work unsupervised with students will also be required to undergo a background check.

We understand these changes may seem disruptive, especially for long-time volunteers. Our intent is to ensure that our students feel safe and supported with each and every person they encounter at school.

As a reminder, all volunteers — and visitors to a school — are required to sign in by scanning their ID at our visitor kiosk. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more.

Kiss and Ride

We want to thank you for helping us keep our morning Kiss and Ride drop-off safe and efficient for all students. To make the process smoother each day, please keep the following reminders in mind:

  • Children should be seated on the right side of the car so they can exit directly onto the sidewalk. Students are not to get out on the left-hand side of the car in a parking lot with moving vehicles.
  • Adults should remain in the car—staff will be there to assist when possible, students need to be able to buckle themselves in and unbuckle themselves to get out as staff members are not allowed to assist with seatbelts. If your child needs assistance, once in the car pull into an empty parking spot and help buckle them in safely. This will keep kiss and ride moving without any backup.
  • Have your child ready to exit quickly and safely (backpack, coat, and other items in hand) so that the line can continue moving.

If your child is having difficulty with this, please consider practicing at home. Your partnership helps ensure that all children arrive at school safely and that our mornings run smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation and support!
