October 17 - News and Notes!
Rolling Valley Families,
Thank you to all the families who were able to attend our Family Preview Night for Family Life Education this past Wednesday. We appreciate your partnership and engagement in supporting your child’s learning.
It’s been a full and exciting week at RVES! Students are wrapping up the first quarter and are deeply engaged in their reading groups, hands-on learning experiences, and ongoing math activities. We ended the week on a cozy note with today’s optional SCA Spirit Day, Pajama Day!
Looking ahead, tomorrow, October 18, is our PTA’s biggest event of the year, the RVES Fun Fair and Haunted House! Our PTA has been working hard to make this an amazing community event, and they are still looking for volunteers and donations to help make it a success. Be sure to check below for more details and ways to get involved.

Family Liaison Survey
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Our Family Liaison wants to hear from you! Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey to help us better understand how we can support your family this school year. Your input will help connect you with valuable resources and programs.
Thank you for being an important part of our school community!
LEAP - Library Equity Access Pass
Did you know that every FCPS student PK-12 has a Fairfax County Public Library card? The LEAP program, now in its 6th year, allows all FCPS students to check out up to 3 library books for up to 6 weeks at a time (print books only). In lieu of presenting a physical library card, students give their names to the public librarian (no student ID needed) to check out their books. A new LEAP button has been added on the FCPS Library Resources page on the FCPS website.
Lightspeed Student Online Activity Reports for All Families
This week, all parents and caregivers with Records Access in SIS will automatically get a weekly email summarizing their student’s online activity.
- This is a great way for families to have a conversation with their student about being a good digital citizen and using technology responsibly.
- Many of the reports should highlight the websites frequently used at Rolling Valley: Clever, ST Math, Lexia, Benchmark, Schoology, and MyOn.
- These reports will be sent to the email addresses on file in SIS. If a family prefers not to receive the weekly emails, they can easily opt out by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email.
For more information, families can visit the FAQ section on the Lightspeed Parent Report page on the FCPS website.
