College Bound!
As part of our AVID initiative, several of our 4th and 5th grade students participated in a field trip to George Mason University. The purpose of this experience was to begin exposing students at the elementary level to the many opportunities that await them in higher education. Students toured the campus, learned about college life, and engaged in conversations about their future goals. Experiences like this help our students start envisioning their own paths to success and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. A huge shout out to Ms. Boyle for organizing this field trip. And another huge shout out to Ms. Larson and Mr. Mitchell for chaperoning.

Impact Awards

Impact Award
Ms. Ashley Ireland and Ms. Michelle Carr-Hogan, our Get2Green teacher leaders were recognized at the Impact Award ceremony last Wednesday, October 8, 2025, night. Their leadership exemplifies the spirit of Equity and Cultural Responsiveness, as they intentionally plan and implement environmentally-focused learning experiences that are inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned to the needs of every student in our diverse school community. Congratulations! We are so proud of them!

Movie Night

Movie Night Fun!
Last Friday, October 10, 2025, our PTA hosted a fantastic Movie Night featuring Monsters University! The movie’s themes of perseverance and teamwork aligned perfectly with our AVID focus on goal setting and determination. It was wonderful to see so many of our families come out to enjoy the evening together and show their support for our PTA. Thank you to everyone who made this community event such a success!

Learning from One Another
Last week, our teachers engaged in an extended Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) meeting focused on math instruction. Several teachers (see below Ms. Pezzuti, Ms. Campbell, and Mr. Abourakty) modeled lessons with students in a “fishbowl” format, allowing their colleagues to observe the lesson in action. Teachers took note of effective instructional moves, the types of questions posed, and how students responded. This collaborative learning experience helped deepen teachers’ understanding and build their capacity to deliver high-quality math instruction.

2nd Early Release Wednesday- October 29, 2025

Dear ATES Parent/Caregiver,

The Early Release Wednesdays planned throughout the school year for elementary schools are essential to allow educators time for planning and professional development.  Students will be dismissed 3 hours early eight times throughout the school year and are encouraged to return home via their normal route.  However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship because of the early release Wednesdays for many of our families.  To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it.

The following dates are planned for Early Release Wednesdays throughout the school year:

·         October 29

·         November 12

·         December 10

·         February 18

·         March 18

·         April 22

·         May 13

To help plan for student supervision during the second early release Wednesday, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/zVrm5DZQXaE8ndXF6 as soon as possible for each of your children who are enrolled in grades K-5 at Annandale Terrace Elementary. If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms. Staff will confirm the after-school supervision plan for each student.

In addition, parents and caregivers also are encouraged to log in to the Parent Digital Consent system to review and provide consent to a variety of resources and services including Early Release Wednesday Childcare.

·         OPT IN if you require childcare on our limited early release Wednesdays.

·         OPT OUT if your child will go home (or to childcare arranged with SACC or another provider) at the early release time.

Please notify our front office at least one week in advance to ensure enough staff are available to provide supervision and ensure your child gets home safely on early release Wednesdays.

When Should Your Child Stay Home?

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to miss as few days as possible. However, do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. So when should your child stay home? Visit the FCPS website for helpful ideas regarding absences and how to work with your child and our school.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify our school and your child’s teacher so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with our public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and tell school staff why and for how long.
