Woodburn Happenings and Highlights

Read-a-Thon

The Woodburn Read-A-Thon kicks off TODAY! We will be focusing on reading over the next few weeks at school and hope you can focus on it at home as well! Our 2025 Read-a-Thon theme is "Camp Out with a Good Book!" We have two exciting weeks planned, including reading challenges, author visits, a storybook character parade, and much more! Reading logs and more information were sent home in yesterday's folders. Make a donation to support your reader(s) on our Read-a-thon website

All students have the opportunity to win a prize for reading!

  • K-2 Students: 200 minutes over two weeks
  • 3-6 Students: 300 minutes over two weeks

The top class in each grade will earn a popcorn and movie party once the Read-a-Thon concludes. In addition, the grade level that raises the most money will earn an extra recess!

Reading logs and more information were sent home in yesterday's folders.

We love some readers theater! They made the characters and story really come to life!

Storybook Character Day!

It's back! Storybook Character Day is coming up on Thursday, October 31st! Students are invited to dress as their favorite storybook character and will have the option to participate in our parade. Due to our early release and lunch schedule, the parade will take place in the morning at 9:45. Families are invited to gather in the bus loop to wave at their Wildcat as they walk by!

Storybook outfits must align with the the dress code as outlined in SR&R. "FCPS respects a student's right to express themselves in the way they dress. It is important, however, that their appearance is tasteful and appropriate for a K-12 setting."

Impact Aid

The Impact Aid Program is a federal program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program’s mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned, and therefore tax exempt, property. The electronic version of the Federal Impact Aid Survey will open to parents/guardians on October 21, 2025 in ParentVUE through January 31, 2026.

Please complete one form for each child in your household. Remember that only the parent that registered the student with FCPS (the ‘enrolling parent’) can fill out the Impact Aid Survey form. For families without access to ParentVUE, a paper copy of the form will be sent home with your student starting November 12. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
