Greetings Laurel Ridge Families,

It’s been another wonderful week of learning at Laurel Ridge.  It’s been wonderful seeing so many of you coming to school for parent-teacher conferences.  If you haven’t scheduled your conference yet, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

It is finally feeling like fall, and we are excited for some upcoming activities.  Today is the Robinson Homecoming Parade through our neighborhood.  Saturday evening is PTA’s Trunk or Treat, which is always spooky and fun.  And next week brings the PTA Boosterthon Kickoff.  This event is the major fundraiser for our amazing PTA and allows them to do many wonderful things for Laurel Ridge.  For example, the PTA supported the purchase of two social-emotional learning programs so that our students are learning important life skills across grade levels.  The PTA also sponsors monthly family events that are free for all.  Please consider participating in and supporting this year’s Boosterthon.

Please send a picture of your Veteran to mahanley@fcps.edu by October 31, 2025 and include:

  • The Veteran’s name, rank, and branch
  • Your student’s name and teacher

Outstanding Employee Nominations!

It’s time to recognize the dedication and achievements of our Laurel Ridge staff – nominations are now open for the FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards! Every year, FCPS celebrates the remarkable efforts and accomplishments of both school-based and non-school-based employees across the district. The process starts at the school level, proceeds to the pyramid, and then to the region where one individual from each category is awarded an outstanding employee award.

To nominate a Laurel Ridge Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please complete the Google nomination form. You may nominate one employee at our school or multiple employees (you may only nominate one employee per category).

For a preliminary nomination, please provide a few paragraphs detailing how the employee exemplifies outstanding work according to the criteria for that category. The Google nomination form includes additional information about the award criteria, and the eligibility requirements are below. If your nominee is chosen as our school winner in their category and moves on to the pyramid level, you will be asked to fill out additional paperwork and assist in obtaining two Letters of Support from other individuals.

The categories and eligibility requirements are below:

Outstanding Teacher: Eligibility - Has completed at least 3 full years of teaching (in any K-12 school/school district).

Outstanding New Teacher: Eligibility - Be within the first 3 years of their teaching career (in any K-12 school/school district).

Outstanding Principal: Eligibility - Has been a building principal in a K-12 school setting for four years or more.

Outstanding Leader:  Eligibility - Works as a full-time or part-time Schedule C or School-Based Administrator who has completed at least one contracted year of employment working with FCPS in their current position at their current work location. Assistant Principals are included in this category.

Outstanding Professional Employee:  Eligibility: Works as a Schedule-B employee or other non-instructional employee in a school who supports school leadership. Common positions in this category: School-Based Technology Specialist, Technology Support Specialist, Instructional Coach, Psychologist, Social Worker, School Counselor, Resource Teachers who serve in an administrative role in the school, Special Education Department Chairs, and Reading Specialists.

Outstanding Operational Employee:  Eligibility: Works as a Schedule A, Schedule H, or Classroom Instructional Support employee who has completed at least one contracted year of employment working with FCPS in their current position at their current work location. Common positions in this category: Administrative & Office Staff, Custodial Staff, Food Service Staff, IA, PHA, PHTA, Parent Liaisons, and hourly employees.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, October 31, 2025.
