It was a whirlwind day of news. The government soon will reopen. And with that, we may see the release of the Epstein Files. Trump is trying to stop the Epstein Files from being released, his people met in the Situation room with Lauren Boebert, one of the Republican members of the House who signed the discharge petition to request release of the files. CNN just reported that the pressure tactic did not work. This petition now has 218 signatures, as Rep Adelita Grijalva was officially sworn in as a member of Congress and has signed the petition. It is possible that members could remove their names, and it sounds like this is what Trump is hoping to do. The Guardian and other major news outlets are reporting about three emails released today from Republican and Democratic members of Congress that show Trump was aware of Epstein’s conduct a long time ago. And the emails show that Trump “spent hours” with one of Epstein’s victims at Epstein’s house. “Of course Trump knew about the girls,” Epstein is reported to have written. In an email to his sex trafficker co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein referred to Trump as “the dog that didn’t bark yet,” meaning Trump was a dog that had some bark. He knew what was going on. Thousands of emails were relased today. And these aren’t even part of the Epstein Files that the House wants released from DOJ. This is going to unravel quickly, I predict. On another note, I was interviewed on the New York City institution that is WNYC yesterday, all about our documentary WOMEN LAUGHING, which is premiering this Saturday and Monday in NYC (tickets still available!) Host Brian Lehrer has invited me many times before, it is always fun to talk with him, as he clearly loves New Yorker cartoons and asks such fun questions. Here is the link to listen to our 15 minute conversation. Thanks for being here. I’m going to keep trying to catch up on all this news and figure it out. Have a great Wednesday evening, all. |
