Fairfax Recycles Day (11 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
Enjoy a drop-off and Touch-a-Truck event at the Backlick VRE parking lot in Springfield. Bring items to recycle or donate. Recyclables include small e-waste, household batteries, glass bottles/jars and books. Donate new or gently-used winter jackets, eyeglasses and housewares. Check out a fire engine, flusher truck, trash truck and more.

Sketching Along the Lakeside (10 a.m. - noon)
Walk with a naturalist at Burke Lake Park, and learn nature drawing techniques. Better understand how to use different sketching and observational skills. Bring the medium of your choice to the class. Registration is $24.

Fall Engineering Challenge (3 - 4 p.m.)
Use your critical thinking and problem solving skills to engineer a solution for our secret seasonal challenge at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale. Attack the design problem and work within the criteria and constraints to see if you can come up with the best solution. Registration is $10.
Make Room for Turkeys (3 - 4 p.m.)
Find out about the role of turkeys in different cultures and how important habitat restoration will make room for turkeys in the world at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly. Registration is $8.
Make Your Own Green Cleaning Supplies (3 - 4 p.m.)
Join us at the Pohick Regional Library in Burke to make three different types of cleaners: a disinfectant spray, a tub scrub and a non-toxic cleaning powder. All recipes have been staff-tested and are made with readily available, inexpensive and non-toxic ingredients.
Owl Walk and Talk (5 - 6 p.m.)
Enjoy a late afternoon walk at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston to learn why winter is the best time to go owl-ing. During a story reading, learn to identify local owl calls, discover why owls are nicknamed flying tigers of the night and enjoy a woodland stroll. Registration is $8.
