Qld Young Australian of the Year: A south west youth worker has won the 2026 Queensland's Young Australian of the Year, announced at a ceremony in Brisbane last week. Guwama/Kooma man Jarib Branfield-Bradshaw founded a neighbourhood centre in Cunnamulla to provide a safe space for teenagers. He'll join recipients from the other states and territories for the national awards, to be announced on January 25 in Canberra.

Drug charges: Police have charged two men following a search of a campervan outside Winton on November 7. Police say they uncovered a large quantity of cannabis with an approximate street value of around half a million dollars. The two men, aged 42 and 52, both from New South Wales, were charged with possessing and supplying dangerous drugs. They are due to face court in Emerald.
Adavale future discussion:
A report has been released outlining four options available for the future of a south west town ravaged by floods earlier this year. Following this year's flood event, Adavale residents petitioned to the Quilpie Shire Council to relocate the town to higher ground.
