There are exceptions, through grandfathered FM signals like the Mount Wilson FM signals for Los Angeles, Boston's 89.7 WGBH(FM), Pittsburgh's 92.9 WLTJ(FM) and 102.5 WDVE(FM) and a few others in cities like Washington, D.C., and Buffalo. But with a maximum HAAT of 150 meters, 50 kW is the highest ERP allowed by the FCC in Zones I and I-A. Once outside the boundaries, such as where 106.9 WAFX(FM)'s Class C facility is located in Suffolk, Va., is where 100 kW territory begins.
