UCLA to launch nuclear medicine department in Jan.
The University of California-Los Angeles will open a Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics on Jan. 1 to integrate advanced imaging and therapy and further precision health. Dr. Johannes Czernin is acting department chair and Dr. Jeremie Calais, who has extensive research experience in nuclear medicine, is director of the department's clinical research program. The department will be staffed by physicians, technologists, nurses, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, research associates and project scientists.

The potential of SIRPα immuno-PET
An invited perspective published in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine discusses the use of signal regulatory protein α immuno-PET imaging to provide a comprehensive view of myeloid immune activity. "The translational opportunities are considerable," writes Sridhar Nimmagadda of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. "Beyond infection, myeloid cells are central players in oncology, fibrosis, and autoimmunity."

Study links adaptive coping to cognitive resilience
A study in the journal Alzheimer's & Dementia linked adaptive stress coping strategies to cognitive resilience in older adults at risk for Alzheimer's disease. The study included people who had cognitive assessments over 5.3 years, and PET imaging with the Pittsburgh Compound B (PiB) to assess beta-amyloid pathology and with F-18 flortaucipir PET to assess tau pathology

Radiopharm gets OK for Phase 1 trial of RAD 402
Radiopharm Theranostics has received approval in Australia to begin a Phase 1 trial of RAD 402, a radiolabeled monoclonal antibody that targets kallikrein-related peptidase 3 for the treatment of metastatic or locally advanced prostate cancer. RAD 402 is labeled with terbium-161, which emits beta particles and Auger electrons.

Siemens Healthineers has rebranded PETNet Solutions and AdAcAp Molecular Imaging under its own name, creating a unified radiopharmaceutical business segment. It bought AdAcAp Molecular Imaging from Novartis in 2024 and PETNet in 2006.

How hospitals are addressing workplace violence
Health systems are taking stronger measures to address workplace violence. Scripps Health is analyzing incidents and improving safety, while Denver Health considers administrative discharges for violent patients. Supporting staff in filing charges and disseminating lessons learned across organizations are also key strategies. "When a workplace violence event occurs, frontline staff need to see executive leadership," says Scott Strauss, vice president of corporate security at Northwell Health.

Mass. lawmakers advance health care workplace violence bill
The Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee has advanced a bill aimed at addressing violence in health care workplaces. The bill, supported by the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association, the Massachusetts Nurses Association and 1199SEIU, mandates comprehensive violence-prevention systems and introduces new criminal penalties for assaults on health care workers. The bill also requires annual reporting of violence incidents to the Department of Public Health and regional district attorneys.
