Message from Mr. Greata
Dear Woodson Families,
The big news this week is that Curriculum Night is happening this Thursday, January 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM here at Carter G. Woodson High School. This is perhaps the most vital part of the course selection process, as it allows students and families to speak directly with teachers about specific subjects. For our freshman families, there will also be a dedicated presentation from 6:00-6:45pm in the auditorium featuring essential information for the remainder of your high school career.
One of the best reasons to attend is to learn about our expanding curriculum. We are thrilled to introduce several new additions to our course selection sheet, including Korean, Yoga for Wellness, Ecology, AP Business, Construction Technology, and other exciting electives. Come out on Thursday to hear more about these wonderful opportunities!
A question we are often asked is: "What is the difference between an AP course and a Dual Enrollment course?" While both can lead to college credit, there are key differences in how they are structured and how credits transfer.
To help you prepare for Thursday, I encourage you to review the Fairfax County Public Schools website, which offers excellent resources on both Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment (DE). Reviewing these materials beforehand will help you make the most of your conversations with our staff.
You can also learn more about academic advising by joining our PTSO meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, January 13, at 7:00 PM via Zoom. We will be joined by our Director of Student Services, Josh Peters, who will provide additional insights into this important advising season.
