PTO Sponsored Before School Programs—Registration DEADLINE JAN. 14
At the request of Crossfield families, the Crossfield PTO has thoughtfully coordinated Before School Programs, beginning with the Winter Session starting Wednesday, January 28, 2026. This 9-week session meets once per week on Wednesdays from 8:00–9:00am, running January 28 through March 25. In the event of inclement weather, one makeup class will be held on Wednesday, April 8.

Overtime Athletics: Sports Spectacular—Now available for Grades: K-6: This high-energy, skill-building program introduces students to a variety of sports and playground favorites in a fun, structured environment. Sports Spectacular focuses on teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence while keeping kids active and engaged before the school day begins. Students will participate in activities such as: Basketball, Soccer, Kickball, Flag Tag, Relay Races, Capture the Flag, and more OTA favorites! Each week features exciting new games and challenges that emphasize participation and effort over competition.
RoboThink: Battle Robots—Grades: 3-6:Calling all future champions and robot enthusiasts! Brace yourself for an action-packed program with RoboThink, where you'll embark on an epic journey of building and battling with a wide variety of awe-inspiring robots. Put on your engineer's hat and bring your robot to life using gears, motors, axles, and our state-of-the-art hardware. Then, step into the arena and engage in thrilling battles and challenges that will push your skills to the limit. No experience necessary– just come ready to battle, have fun, and let your robot reign supreme!
Silver Knights: Chess Club—Grades: K-6: Learn chess with Silver Knights Chess Academy! We’ve taught 100,000 children to play including state & national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.
Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of club time. This in-person club includes free online extras including weekly practice tournaments, a Chesskid Gold membership ($49 value!), and an event with a chess celebrity. All chess supplies provided. Wize Computing: Coding, Designing & Modeling with Minecraft Education—Grades 2-6: In this engaging 9-session weekly program (1 hour per session), students dive into hands-on projects using Minecraft Education. The first half of the course builds a strong foundation in coding and design principles. In the second half, students apply those skills through a special multi-session Amazon-Rainforest-themed project. Guided by trained instructors, students build, code, and problem-solve inside immersive Minecraft worlds—strengthening their critical thinking, and creativity. All devices and materials are provided. Parents also receive timely updates to celebrate their child’s progress. With our standards-aligned curriculum and highly interactive, team-based approach, each session is designed to spark curiosity and inspire a lifelong interest in STEM.

Math Week offers families an opportunity to experience math, literacy, history, and geography in a fun and positive way. All content will be available for families in English and Spanish beginning Monday, January 12.

South Lakes High School Presents: Broadway Night
South Lakes High School Chorus is proud to present Broadway Night, an incredible showcase of talent and music! This year's theme, 'Broadway through the Books', features songs from beloved book-inspired musicals including Wicked, Les Misérables, Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera, Seussical, and many more, performed by 5th through 12th grade students from Forest Edge, Fox Mill, Hunters Woods, Lake Anne, Sunrise Valley, Terraset, Langston Hughes, Rachel Carson, and South Lakes. Tutoring Services
Varsity Tutors (Free)
FCPS partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services, at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests. All FCPS students automatically have access to these free resources when they log into Clever through Schoology. For any questions, please reach out to onlinetutoring@fcps.edu.
In-Person Tutors for Hire
The FCPS Family Resource Center has created a list of available tutors, consisting of current FCPS employees with valid Virginia teaching licenses who are interested in tutoring outside their contracted school hours. Left Behind
 Is your child missing a hard bound book? There are a few that have been left behind. How about a nice warm gray winter jacket? There are a few of those as well. These items and more are languishing in the Left Behind. Please check the cafeteria corner. Thank you for asking your child to reclaim his/her clothing. All items left at the end of second quarter, January 28th, will be donated to The Closet in Herndon.
