Kings Park Families,
We had a productive first week of 2026 at Kings Park. Students reconnected at Morning Meeting, showed their thinking in math and experienced different perspectives in language arts. This week is FCPS Math Week and we encourage families to experience the joy of math as a family by accessing the resources described below.
As we navigate these colder months, we want to thank you for continuing to make consistent school attendance a top priority. Missing even a day or two of instruction can create gaps in understanding that are difficult to close. We truly appreciate your efforts to ensure your children arrive on time and ready to engage.
Sincerely,
 |

Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan |

FCPS Math Week: January 12th-16th
Come together as a community for students in K-6 for 5 nights the week of January 12, 2026, with delightful math games and stories - all on your own time and from the comfort of your own home. All content will be available for free directly to all families in English and Spanish.
Through rich story-based mathematics experiences, math week offers families an opportunity to experience math, literacy, history, and geography in a positive way. The games and stories feature several countries including Lesotho, Madagascar, Ghana, and China.
All content will be available completely free on the website starting January 12, 2026. To access the games, families will be able to simply click on the day of the week and find their child's grade and language.
Families can play for as little as 15 minutes or replay over and over lasting more than an hour on any given night. For families that want to reduce screen time, we will have physical print options for access to the content and games as well. Families can access the games and activities here.

Healthy Habits to Reduce the Spread of Flu and Other Germs
Fairfax County is seeing very high levels of influenza (flu) illness. Visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers for flu-like illness have increased, especially among children, and multiple flu outbreaks have occurred in our community and school settings.
Consider these tips from the Fairfax County Health Department to help reduce the spread of flu and other germs:
-
Cover coughs and sneezes. Use tissues to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing or use your upper sleeve. Throw tissues away and wash hands after.
-
Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available (with supervision for younger children).
-
Consider wearing a mask around others indoors. If you must be around others while ill, wearing a mask can help reduce spread.
-
Clean frequently touched surfaces.
-
Do not give aspirin to children. Anyone 18 years and younger who might have the flu should not be given aspirin or any products that contain salicylate (e.g. Pepto Bismol) as this can cause a rare and serious complication called Reye’s syndrome.
