Reboot
With the appointment of its first-ever chief AI officer, Wiley is continuing to ramp up its efforts to cut content licensing deals with AI companies. The Institute of Library and Museum Services has opened its 2026 grant cycle after weathering a year of funding and staffing cuts—but with a renewed focus on “furthering the Trump administration’s commitment to heritage preservation,” among other grantmaking priorities. Plus, comics publisher Oni Press and guidebook giant Lonely Planet have appointed veterans of Kickstarter and Simon & Schuster, respectively, to top positions. William Morrow will publish a book cowritten by Travis and Jason Kelce this June. Cultured talks to editors at McNally Editions, New York Review Books, Hagfish, and other small presses about publishing’s hottest trend: reissuing overlooked, out-of-print titles. Australia’s Adelaide Writers Week has been officially canceled after 180 speakers and writers withdrew from the festival in protest of its decision to disinvite Australian-Palestinian writer and academic Randa Abdel-Fattah, per the Hollywood Reporter. And International Booker Prize–nominated Dutch-Surinamese author Astrid Roemer and Dilbert creator Scott Adams have died at 78 and 68, respectively.
