Our lost & found is overflowing with coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, water bottles and lunch boxes. Please encourage your children to check for items they may be missing! All items will be donated if not claimed. Remember to label your items so that we can return them to you if found.
Parents and Guardians have a huge influence on students when it comes to attendance. Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help students do well in high school, college, and at work.
Maintain regular bed time and morning routines to help your child develop a habit of on-time attendance.
Talk to your child about why going to school everyday is important unless they are sick.
Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick.
If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make him feel comfortable and excited about learning. Keep in mind complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
When possible, avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
Reach out to your child’s teacher or school counselor if you are experiencing tough times such as unstable housing, transportation or health problems.

Martin Luther King, Jr. and National Day of Service
Martin Luther King Jr. Day (“MLK Day”), observed on the third Monday in January, is a day to honor and reflect upon the immense contributions of Dr. King to the civil rights movement. It is a time to remember his dream of equality, justice, and unity, and to engage in meaningful discussions about the ongoing struggle for civil rights and social justice in the United States and worldwide.
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. During the last two decades, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact is increasing as more Americans come to understand that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving their communities.

Healthy Habits to Reduce the Spread of Flu and Other Germs
Fairfax County is seeing very high levels of influenza (flu) illness. Visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers for flu-like illness have increased, especially among children, and multiple flu outbreaks have occurred in our community and school settings.
Consider these tips from the Fairfax County Health Department to help reduce the spread of flu and other germs.
Apply for Your Child to Learn in Two Languages
The 2026-27 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program lottery opens on Monday, January 12. The program offers students in kindergarten and first grade the opportunity to learn in English and another language — French, German, Japanese, Korean, or Spanish — for half of each instructional day.
The online, countywide lottery is open to Fairfax County residents. Families must have a SIS ParentVUE account. Students not currently enrolled in FCPS should register at their base school before applying for the immersion program.
Families applying for first grade must do so by Thursday, February 12. Those applying for kindergarten must do so by Monday, March 2, at 4 p.m.
Informational meetings will begin in January. View dates and details on the FCPS calendar. If you have questions, please contact Brigid Williams at 571-423-4600.
❄️ The Fastest Way to Hear About School Delays or Closings
Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE to make sure you receive notifications of school delays or closings. Emails and text messages are sent to parents/caregivers based on the email addresses and cell phone numbers entered in ParentVUE.
If your information is correct but you are not receiving updates from FCPS, contact the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Watch a video to see how FCPS makes weather delays or closing decisions. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Even When School Is Closed, Learning Can Continue!
FCPS encourages students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play for your child in the event of weather-related school closures.
☎️ See Something, Say Something: Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline
FCPS provides a way for employees and the general public to report any suspected wrongdoing related to FCPS’ assets and resources. Reporting will help ensure taxpayers’ money is spent appropriately — on our students’ education. It can also help improve employees’ work environment.
Reports can be made in person, by phone, by email, or online. All reports are taken seriously, and every effort will be made to investigate reports according to the applicable laws, codes, policies, or regulations. Community members can assist with investigations by providing as much information as possible. Please visit the Office of the Auditor General webpage to learn more.
