Foresters and scientists in Sardinia, Italy, have recently developed a cost-effective protocol to grow oak seedlings free from Phytophthora, one of the most damaging pathogens threatening oak trees in Mediterranean ecosystems. “The aim is to grow stronger and healthier trees, which are more resilient to the impacts of climate change,” says Bruno Scanu.

From 19 to 21 May 2026, the EU CAP Network conference ‘Water resilience in agriculture: innovation in practice’ will highlight practical solutions to strengthen water resilience in EU agriculture and forestry. Through real-life cases, workshops and an innovation market, the event will create space to discuss innovative project results and encourage further networking among participants. The call for expressions of interest for this workshop is now open. The event will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 22 to 23 April 2026. It will focus on ways to support farmers to make well-informed decisions about diversifying their cropping systems in response to climate change. Find out more and apply before 29 January 2026.

The report for the EU CAP Network seminar ‘On-farm demonstrations for peer-to-peer learning and innovation’ is now available. The seminar gathered 179 participants to explore how well-organised, visible and well-supported demonstrations can boost knowledge exchange and innovation uptake.

The Erasmus+ project NEGHTRA boosts innovation in smart greenhouse farming. It has established an interactive platform that enables young farmers to develop the necessary skills to utilise innovative technologies and cultivate resilient businesses. Through virtual reality, e-learning and practical digital tools, sustainable innovation becomes accessible to the next generation of greenhouse growers. Among the winners of the Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards (ARIA) 2025: DIMITRA (see photo), linked to the EIP-AGRI Operational Group TINNOGEPRA - Technological transfer of innovative agricultural practices within fruit and horticultural ecosystems, received the smart & competitive agriculture award, while the EIP-AGRI OG Farma Rokou, showcasing innovation rooted in local value chains, won the popular vote award. The ceremony took place on 3 December in Brussels, celebrating CAP-funded projects that make rural areas greener, smarter and more inclusive. Discover all six ARIA 2025 winners.
