Notes from the Nest

From the Principals’ Desk

This week, we met with students in grades 1, 3, and 5 for their quarterly SOAR meetings. Our conversations focused on Optimism and how an optimistic mindset can help us manage big feelings, respond thoughtfully, and build confidence.

Students shared examples of how optimism supports them when learning feels challenging or emotions run high. We talked about how optimism is not about pretending things are always easy, but about believing in ourselves, trying again, and knowing we can grow.

We are proud of the way our Eagles continue to reflect, share, and practice SOAR in meaningful ways. These conversations help strengthen our community and support students in becoming confident, resilient learners.

With appreciation,

April Martin, Proud Principal & Kassandra Flading, Assistant Principal

First Grade Unit 4 Essential Question

How do we learn about characters?

In this unit, students read and compare stories told from different points of view. They learn how authors help readers understand characters, settings, and events. Students explore the difference between realistic stories, which could happen in real life, and fantasy stories, which include imaginative elements. By reading stories from different perspectives, students build a better understanding of how people think, feel, and experience the world in different ways.

Sixth Grade Focus for This Week:

Math learning is soaring this week as our sixth graders dive into engaging, real-world problem solving and strengthen their mathematical thinking. In Math 6, students are tackling contextual word problems involving multiplication and division with integers, giving them opportunities to apply their skills to everyday situations. In Math 7, students are launching an exciting new unit on ratios and proportional relationships, where they will learn to compare quantities and understand how numbers change together. In Math 8, students are beginning their unit on non-linear expressions. They will focus on the laws of exponents, simplifying radicals and operating radicals. Through hands-on practice, discussion, and problem solving, our sixth grade students are building confidence, sharpening their reasoning skills, and making meaningful connections between math concepts and the world around them.
