President Trump has said his administration will "de-escalate a little bit" in Minnesota, but without giving further details. Speaking to Fox News, Trump called the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good "terrible", but appeared to defend the immigration operation, saying "we took thousands of hardened criminals" out of the state, "so they have good crime numbers". Ahead of an Iowa rally on Tuesday night, Trump was asked by other reporters whether he agreed with characterisations of Pretti as a "domestic terrorist". The president said: "I haven't heard that," but added the 37-year-old "shouldn't have been carrying a gun". Eyewitnesses and local officials have said Pretti had a phone in his hand, not a weapon, when he was shot. |
