A girl from Massachusetts died in an avalanche while on vacation with her family in Utah on Thursday, officials said Friday. Madelyn Eitas, 11, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition after her brother located her amid a frantic search near Brighton Ski Resort, according to Salt Lake City area police, but she later died. The avalanche was reported about 12:29 p.m. on Thursday, and more than 20 civilians helped the family and Wasatch Backcountry Rescue look for the girl, according to police. When the Rochester, Massachusetts, girl was found, rescue workers used advanced life-saving efforts, but she wasn’t able to be flown to a hospital because of flight risks in the area. |
