Centreville Students, Families, and Community,

As we move through another exciting week at Centreville High School, I am filled with pride for the many ways our community continues to come together in celebration, learning, and growth.

Over the past several days, we have had continued opportunities to honor the culture and diversity that make Centreville such a special place. Last week marked the beginning of Chinese New Year, and 2026 welcomes the Year of the Horse. In Chinese culture, the horse is often associated with freedom, energy, determination, and a bold, forward-moving spirit. It represents the courage to pursue new paths and the drive to embrace meaningful change. As I reflected on this symbolism, I was struck by how closely it aligns with the journey we are on together as a school community.

At Centreville, one of our core priorities is getting better, together. This commitment is grounded in two essential components: continuous improvement and strong collaboration. Like the spirit associated with the Year of the Horse, our work calls us to approach each day with purpose, openness to new opportunities, and a willingness to grow. Transformation does not happen in isolation, it happens when we learn from one another, support one another, and move forward as a united community.

This week, I also had the privilege of attending A Night of Korean Tradition. The evening featured a vibrant range of performances that highlighted the energy, grace, and artistic depth of Korean culture. Our students and performers shared traditions that were both powerful and inspiring. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to School Board member Mr. Ilryong Moon and the President of the Korean American Society of Virginia, Mr. Duk Man Kim, for joining us in celebrating this special event. Their presence and support reinforce the strong partnership between our school and the broader community.

As our Black Student Union concludes its Black History Month celebrations this week, I want to emphasize an important truth: celebrating and honoring culture is not limited to a single event or a single month. It is something we strive to do every day at Centreville High School. We are proud of the many cultures, perspectives, and experiences represented within our student body. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. When we celebrate one culture, we enrich our entire community. We learn from one another, deepen our empathy, and strengthen the bonds that unite us.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community partners for continuing to make Centreville a place where everyone is valued and where growth, both individual and collective, remains at the heart of all we do.

Thank you and go Wildcats!

Dr. Erik Healey, Principal

CVHS Students Growing Change for the Chesapeake Bay: Students are launching an exciting environmental project in which they are growing grass in the classroom to support restoration efforts at Mason Neck State Park. If successful, the grass will be transferred in May to help strengthen underwater grass populations in the Chesapeake Bay. This hands-on learning experience allows students to explore environmental science in action while contributing to improved water quality and the Bay’s natural filtration system. We are proud of their efforts to make a meaningful impact on the health of our local ecosystem!

Centreville Winterguard and Indoor Drumline Perform at Atlantic Indoor Association Competition: The Centreville Winterguard performed their 2026 show, The Golden Hour, at the Atlantic Indoor Association competition at Woodgrove HS on Saturday. Winterguard is the indoor, competitive sport of colorguard, where teams perform choreographed dance and routines using flags, rifles, and sabers to recorded music. Winterguard combines several artistic and athletic disciplines to create an expressive performance and is the counterpart to Colorguard, the group that participates in the fall marching band. No experience is necessary to join and the groups are open to any student at Centreville HS. If you’re looking for a fun group activity, please join us!! Questions? Contact Melissa Hall (Band Director) mahall3@fcps.edu or Leslie Wilson (Guard Instructor) lswilson1@fcps.edu for more information. Register to join the guard for the fall at bit.ly/WildcatMBRegistration.

Congratulations to the Indoor Drumline on their 1st place win in Percussion Scholastic Regional A group at AIA Woodgrove on 2/21/26. Indoor Drumline is a competitive, theatrical, and choreographed performing art consisting of battery (marching drums) and front ensemble (stationary mallets/synths) instruments performing in gyms. Often referred to as "percussion theater," these groups combine high-level musical performance with staging and visual movement. The students performed their show, Less is More, for the first time and immediately impressed the judges. We look forward to the rest of the season and continued success!

New Visitor Management System: We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry. For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-ins even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check in at school. If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!
