Nearly 1 million revelers expected at Southie's St. Patrick's Day parade

Boston is getting ready for one of its biggest annual celebrations — Southie’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Around one million people are expected to pack the streets for the festive tradition, with police ramping up security and officials focusing on keeping the celebration safe, family-friendly and fun for everyone.

The bars were booming Saturday, and Boston police were busy preparing for the big event.

Damaging wind gusts, possible flooding with Monday's storm

A seasonable March ahead for St. Patrick’s Day parade plans.

The day starts near freezing, but winds ease compared to Saturday. Highs in the low and mid 40s by the afternoon with peaks of sunshine. Clouds thicken up as the day goes on with our next storm heading towards New England.

Boston Legacy FC sets attendance record in NWSL debut at Gillette Stadium

The Boston Legacy FC made their debut at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, drawing 30,207 fans to the opener in Foxborough, Massachusetts — a record for a National Women’s Soccer League expansion club in its inaugural match.

“Massachusetts is showing up big for women’s sports,” Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll wrote on X of the record crowd at the Legacy‘s 1-0 loss to Gotham FC, the reigning NWSL champions.

“Boston is ready to show up for women’s sports,” Legacy co-founder Jennifer Epstein said. “We’re doing something big, we’re doing something historic.”

Boston firefighter hospitalized after battling Hyde Park fire

A Boston firefighter was rushed to the hospital from the scene of a fire in the city’s Hyde Park neighborhood Saturday night.

Boston police say officers responded to the area of 1 Westinghouse Plaza around 7:48 p.m. where preliminary information indicates a firefighter was in cardiac arrest.

Officers assisted with blocking off intersections to help Boston EMS get the firefighter to the hospital as quickly as possible. There was no immediate update on the firefighter’s condition.

Man pulled from pond in Whitman

A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he was pulled from the water in Whitman, Massachusetts, on Saturday.

The Whitman police and fire departments say they responded to Whitman Town Park after receiving a call around 2:36 p.m. for someone in the water.

Officers arrived on scene first and found an adult male who appeared to be unresponsive in the park’s small pond, officials said. Police performed CPR on the victim as soon as they got him out of the water, and the fire department took over and transported him to a local hospital.

Construction finishes on major Mass. offshore wind farm — first during Trump's tenure

Construction is finished on a major Massachusetts offshore wind farm, the first project to reach this stage during President Donald Trump’s time in office.

Offshore construction was completed Friday night on Vineyard Wind with the installation of the final blades, Craig Gilvarg, a spokesperson for the project, said Saturday.

Trump, who often talks about his hatred of wind power, has said his goal is to not let any “windmills” be built. Vineyard Wind was one of five major East Coast offshore wind projects the Trump administration halted construction on days before Christmas, citing national security concerns. Developers and states sued, and federal judges allowed all five to resume construction, essentially concluding that the government did not show that the national security risk was so imminent that construction must halt.
