Prosecutors allege negligence in death of Enrique Delgado-Garcia

Newly-released court documents alleged a pattern of negligence and omissions in the training of Enrique Delgado-Garcia, a state police cadet who died after boxing exercises at the Massachusetts State Police Academy.

Investigators said they interviewed 150 witnesses and reviewed more than 300 pieces of evidence. Prosecutors argued the findings showed a series of failures leading up to the 25-year-old’s death and in the moments afterward.

According to prosecutors, Delgado-Garcia participated in multiple boxing matches in September 2024. One training session was not supposed to include boxing, but he sparred with another trainee and later complained of memory loss, headaches and other concussion-like symptoms.
