Roadrunner Rundown

April 13, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We are excited for the upcoming Day of Service on April 15th. This will be a special opportunity for our school community to come together in support of service, collaboration, and school spirit. We will begin the day with a student and staff only (sorry the gym is only so big) pep rally to build energy and enthusiasm for the meaningful work ahead. We are excited that by the day’s end our collective efforts will extend across the entire community as each Madison Pyramid School completes their acts of service.  Many families supported this day by providing needed materials; this is truly a school community effort.  We will follow up next week with a summary of projects completed and some highlights from student reflections.

School Events and Information

Finishing Strong Matters

As we are in the final quarter of the school year, we want our students to have every opportunity to grow new skills, review previously taught skills, and to continue to contribute as a member of our school community.  Let’s see how close to 100% attendance each student can get.

AAP Parent Orientation Tomorrow

The AAP Parent Orientation will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14, 9:30-10:45 am in the library for parents of students who were found eligible for full-time services in 2nd-5th grades. It will include an information session and tour through several local level AAP classrooms.

Purple Up! Wednesday, April 15

Purple Up For Military Kids on purple American Flag background with roadrunner logo

To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 15 for military children.

Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

Join us in recognizing and celebrating these familites and their contributions by wearing purple on Wednesday! And learn more about Month of the Military Child and FCPS resources for military families.

Career Day Spirit Day-This Friday

All students are invited to join 5th grade student council in celebrating Career Day this Friday, April 17!  Dress up as anything you want to be and any job you want to do when you grow up!  The possibilities are endless.  A doctor?  A teacher?  A singer?  An engineer?  Wear your basketball uniform if you want to be a basketball player!  Wear a chef hat if you want to be a chef! Be anything you want to be!

This is a just-for-fun, optional spirit day for students, and we're excited to see what careers are represented!

Yearbook Sales

Yearbook sales have begun, and pre-orders will be accepted through Friday, May 1.  Online orders can be placed using this Yearbook Order Form.  If you would prefer to pay $20.00 by cash or check, make checks payable to Marshall Road Elementary School, place cash or check in an envelope and write your child’s name, teacher name and YEARBOOK on the envelope.  Each yearbook is packed with candid photos, memories of the 2025-2026 school year, staff photos and individual photos of each student by grade level.  There will be a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase after all the prepaid orders are distributed during the last week of school.

Kindergarten Orientation

WE HAVE A NEW DATE SCHEDULED FOR THE KINDERGARATEN ORIENTATION. The April 22 date has been canceled.

Marshall Road School is hosting a kindergarten orientation on Wednesday, May 13 at 2:00pm.   Orientation is for parents and new rising kindergarten students. Families will be given a tour of the school and will have an opportunity to visit a kindergarten classroom as well as learn about the kindergarten experience at MRES.

  • When families arrive at 2:00, rising kindergarten students will go to the kindergarten classrooms for a meet-n-greet with the kindergarten team while parents attend a brief overview in the cafeteria with the administration. Parent(s) and rising kindergarten students will then reunite for a tour of the school.
  • Student registration does not need to be completed to attend this orientation.
  • You do not need to sign up/register to attend this orientation. Orientation will last about an hour or less.

We will schedule two summer tours for those who are unable to attend on May 13 (typically, these are held in August).

Student Intention for the 2026-27 School Year

If you are moving over the summer and will not be returning to Marshall Road School next year (or the respective middle school for rising 7th graders), please contact the school registrar, Shelly Koshuta, at mmarcumkoshu@fcps.edu or call the office at 703-937-1500. Please complete the Student Intention Form and email it to Shelly Koshuta. Paper copies will be sent home in Tuesday Folders on April 14.

If you are moving over the summer, but still living within the Marshall Road boundary, you are required to contact the school registrar, so we can update the new student address.
