Dear Churchill Road families,

We welcomed students back from spring break last week.  Students were happy to be back at school, learning and getting back in routines.

  • We held our kindergarten orientation on April 8 and welcomed members of the Class of 2033.  We cannot wait to see them all in August!
  • Our PTA treated staff to a delicious luncheon from Wok ‘n Roll for our Staff Development day this past Friday.  Thank you to the PTA for making this day so enjoyable for our staff.

Looking ahead,

  • April is the Month of the Military Child and we will be celebrating our military-connected students and families with “Purple Up!” Day April 15 and spirit days on Thursday and Friday (see below).
  • Our third graders are looking forward to their twice-rescheduled field trip to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.  Third time’s the charm!  And our fourth graders will be visiting the Alden Theater to see magician, Zac Mirz.
  • There is no school for students on Tuesday, April 21 due to the upcoming Virginia election.
  • Students will have a full day of classes on Wednesday, April 22.  There will be no early release.

Just a quick reminder about our upcoming SOLS.  It is important to have students attend school on these days:

  • Wednesday, May 6 - Math SOLs for Grades 3-6
  • Tuesday, May 12 - Reading SOLs for Grades 3-6
  • Thursday, May 21 - Science SOL for 5th graders only

If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time period. It is also important for your child to have a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing. We thank you, in advance.

Our absenteeism rate continues to be below this time last year: 9.2%, versus 3.8% as of today.

Enjoy the early summer weather!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pierson-Barr and Mr. Kilpatrick
