Gunston Gazette
Dear Gunston Family,
Welcome to the fourth quarter! This is traditionally one of the most vibrant times of the school year, but it is also the most critical. As the weather warms up, we are hard at work ensuring our students remain focused, fueled, and ready to finish the year with pride.
As we look toward May, our calendar will quickly fill with end of year assessments, including Standards of Learning (SOL), MAP Testing, VALLSS, and iReady. These assessments are an opportunity for our students to showcase the incredible growth they have made since August. To set them up for success, our teachers are currently doubling down on goal-setting and active study strategies. We encourage you to ask your child about the specific academic goals they are working toward this month.
Currently, our chronic absenteeism rate stands at 10.4%. We need your help to bring this number down. When a student is absent, they do not just miss a lesson; they miss the momentum of the classroom community. Please ensure your child is getting plenty of sleep so they can arrive at school alert and ready to learn. We understand that appointments happen. However, if your child has a commitment in the morning or afternoon, please consider sending them to school for the remainder of the day. Every hour of instruction counts toward their confidence and success.
To keep our learning environment productive, we are revisiting our safety expectations. Please take a moment to remind your child about the importance of following bus rules and procedures, as well as maintaining safety and respect within the school building. These habits ensure that every student feels secure and ready to focus on their studies.
Finally, we want to share a save the date. The first week of May is Staff Appreciation Week. Our team has poured their hearts into this year, and we are preparing to celebrate their dedication. Stay tuned for more details on how we can come together as a community to honor them. Thank you for your continued partnership and for making Gunston such a special place to learn. Let us make this April our best month yet!
Warmly,
Ms. Rucinski and Mrs. Ovalle
