Thank You, Ms. Tamakloe and Ms. Eley

Three FCPS administrators and staff smiling in the hallway.

Last week, we celebrated National Assistant Principals Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize two truly exceptional leaders, Ms. Tamakloe and Ms. Eley.

Assistant principals are the steady leaders behind the scenes—supporting teachers, guiding students, and strengthening school culture. Their dedication and passion for our students’ success help make GBE such a wonderful place to learn and grow. We are incredibly fortunate to have their guidance and expertise shaping our school community every single day.

Please join us in thanking them for their tireless hard work and the positive impact they make on us all!

Standards of Learning Tests (Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6)

Spring Standards of Learning (SOL) standardized tests occur in reading, mathematics, and science. See below for the schedule of the grade level SOLs.

  • Tuesday, April 28: Reading
  • Wednesday, May 6: Science (5th Grade Only)
  • Wednesday, May 13: Math

The Grade Level Tests webpage provides information by grade level about the general assessment schedule and reporting method for each required assessment type in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). If you have questions about state assessments, contact your student’s teacher or Charita Eley, school test coordinator.

Welcome Ms. Lorena Sagastume

FCPS administrator

We are thrilled to announce that Ms. Lorena Sagastume will serve as our acting assistant principal while Ms. Megan Tamakloe is away on maternity leave. Many of our school staff first met Ms. Sagastume during her time providing central office support for Region 5, and we are fortunate to welcome her back to our community in this new capacity. Ms. Sagastume will be visiting our campus frequently over the next several weeks to ensure a smooth transition before she officially begins her role in May.

Ms. Sagastume brings over 16 years of dedicated service to Fairfax County Public Schools, including 12 years of classroom experience as a Spanish and ESOL teacher. Her extensive leadership background includes serving as an ESOL Resource Teacher and her current role as a Dual Language Assessment Specialist. As a soon-to-be graduate of the FCPS Accelerated Certification Cohort, she is equipped with the latest research-based strategies to support our school's operations and culture.

Beyond her professional credentials, Ms. Sagastume offers the unique perspective of an FCPS parent. With three Chantilly High School graduates and one current CHS senior, she deeply understands the importance of the partnership between schools and families. We are excited to have her expertise and warm leadership at GBE to help us finish the school year strong!

Help Support Generation Supply at GBE!

Former GBE student and current Fairfax High freshman, Cesar Carlos Aguilera, has launched a wonderful new organization called Generation Supply to help provide students with school supplies. We are excited to support his mission by hosting a donation box right here in our school lobby. Cesar believes that all students can thrive if they have the right foundation. Please consider donating any of the following items to help our community:

  • Ticonderoga #2 Pencils
  • Expo Markers
  • Crayons and Colored Pencils
  • Plastic Folders
  • Wired 3.5 mm Headphones

Help FCPS Sustain Excellence: Make Your Voice Heard on the FY 2027 Budget

This includes public budget hearings (April 14-16) and an online survey. Learn how the FCPS budget helps us sustain our excellence.
