The former top lawyer for Elon Musk’s government‑slashing initiative is now representing the billionaire’s AI company in a lawsuit challenging Colorado’s AI law.

James Burnham, a former Jones Day partner who joined xAI as general counsel last November, signed onto the complaint alongside two other in‑house lawyers and local counsel at Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell. Burnham previously served as general counsel to DOGE, a Musk‑led initiative that reshaped several federal agencies.
