Happiness is a warm puppy. ~Charles Schulz Unless you have personally experienced divorce, no one can really explain that feeling of spiraling backward into a black hole, where the foundation you stood upon disintegrates. The hundred-year-old historical house you bought and loved with your partner, initially filled with unlimited possibilities, now feels like an empty carcass of wood. The friends you had in common stand divided on either side of each partner, not wanting to get involved. Nevertheless, the friends end up as collateral damage. During holidays spent with grandparents and family, the seat at the family table normally reserved for your partner is now filled with someone else. I understand now why people say divorce is like death. So many mornings, I would lie in my bed and go back in time, wondering how I ended up here. If it weren’t for my girls, I probably wouldn’t have left my bed for an entire year. (Keep reading)
