Garland’s Asian American Heritage Festival Is Back — and Ube Is Taking Over (Again)
If your ideal Saturday includes street food, live performances and a little cultural immersion, Garland’s got you covered.
The Asian American Heritage Festival returns to Downtown Garland Square on May 16, bringing an evening of music, dance, art and one very purple food obsession. The free fest runs from 5 to 10 p.m. and celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures with everything from lion dances to a Colorful World Parade.
Of course, Ube Land is back—and it’s still a crowd favorite.
The Scoop N’ Buns-led pop-up has become a mini phenomenon, and it’s easy to see why. Now in its fourth year, Ube Land takes over part of Downtown Garland Square with a curated lineup of vendors serving both vibrant, purple-hued desserts and savory bites—think ube BBQ bao, ube chips and ube eggrolls. It’s a one-of-a-kind culinary experience that’s quickly turned into a regional favorite; all centered around the beloved Filipino ingredient.
The festival also taps into what Garland does well: diversity you can actually see, hear and taste. The downtown square turns into a walkable mix of performances, local vendors and cultural showcases that feel more like a night market than a typical suburban event.
So, whether you’re there for the eats, the performances or just curious what ube tastes like in literally everything, this one’s worth the drive.
