We’re gonna come out & say it...
Life is hard, y'all.
Not always. Not forever. But sometimes all at once and in ways that are hard to explain to anyone who isn't living it.
May is Mental Health Month. And while we love that it’s given it’s moment to shine, let’s not forget mental health is a 365 day thing, so in that spirit, here’s something I learned at therapy that I’ve found super helpful of late — The window of tolerance.
The idea is simple: we all have a “window” where we can handle stress, emotions, work, life — without completely shutting down or feeling overwhelmed.
And when we’re outside of it, everything feels like too much… or nothing feels like anything at all.
What’s been most helpful is realizing that I don’t fix it by pushing harder. Mostly, I notice it, I adjust and quite often, I subtract.
Sometimes that means “no” becomes my best form of self-care.
No thank you.
(Full sentence. Complete strategy.)
Next time you’re feeling out of sorts, maybe check to see if you’re a little outside your own window. Lean into that “no thank you” energy and don’t feel one bit bad about it.
Take care of yourselves,
Larissa
P.S. No thank you socks & necklace at your service.
