In China, the world's two most powerful leaders will meet for what could "be one of the most consequential encounters for years", write North America correspondent Anthony Zurcher and China correspondent Laura Bicker. Trump's visit will include a banquet and a visit to the Temple of Heaven, but most importantly it will see talks, likely on Iran, Taiwan, trade and the superpowers' race to develop AI systems, Anthony and Laura write, as they take a look at what both sides want and what they might use as leverage. The trip will be short, with events only on Thursday and Friday, but "even such a brief encounter could set the trajectory for negotiations, and relations, between the two superpowers for years to come", our correspondents note.
