South Walter Reed Drive Construction Update

Crews continue work to reconstruct the intersection of South Walter Reed Drive and 9th Street South as part of the South Walter Reed Drive Complete Street project. This work includes realigning lanes to reduce confusion, and installing a four-way signal to make through and turning traffic safer for everyone.

What's Next

In the coming weeks, crews will begin work on the east side/northbound lanes of South Walter Reed Drive between Columbia Pike and 9th Street South. This work includes preparations to widen the sidewalk on the east side of South Walter Reed Drive.

Crews will work in the roadway before beginning sidewalk work. After east side/northbound lane work, crews will start working on the west half/southbound lane of South Walter Reed Drive between Columbia Pike and 9th Street South.

The work between 9th Street South and Columbia Pike is expected to be completed by fall of this year. After the fall, crews will begin improvements between 9th Street South and 5th Street South.

Project Design Update

In the interest of safe bus operations, the planned bus stop island will be on the north side of South Walter Reed Drive & 9th Road South when the project is complete. Previous designs placed the stop on the south side of the intersection.
