Bike to Work Day Tips
- Biking partway counts! Bring your bike on transit or park-and-ride for longer trips. (Pro tip: CUE Bus has easy-to-use bike racks on every bus.)
- Plan your route ahead of time for a safer, quieter ride.
- Ride with a friend or family member.
- Don’t forget your helmet!

Earn Stormwater Utility Credit at Creek Cleanup, May 16
On Saturday, May 16, join the Friends of Accotink Creek for the Annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup. Help remove trash from our waterways in partnership with the Alice Ferguson Foundation and Project Clean Stream.
City residents who participate in this event may earn stormwater utility credits.
Cleanup Locations:
- 9-11 a.m. Accotink Creek at Fairfax Boulevard
- Noon-2 p.m. Accotink Creek at University Drive
- 3-5 p.m. Accotink Creek at Blenheim Boulevard

Battery Fire Risks Worker Safety and $350K Trash Truck
 A refuse worker retrieves a burning car battery from a city trash truck before it causes harm to anyone. Please, do not place any kind of battery in your trash or recycling cart. Always drop batteries off at a safe collection site.

Presentations and Proclamations
- Mayor Catherine Read presented proclamations acknowledging May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, May as Small Business Month, and May 10-16 as National Police Week in the City of Fairfax. Oversize checks were presented to recipients of the Chocolate Lovers grants.
Consent Agenda
- Approved a resolution setting the allocation percentage for Personal Property Tax Relief for the 2026 tax year at 39%.
- Approved the following appointments to city boards and commissions:
- Commission on the Arts
- Melissa Miller for the remainder of a three-year term through July 9, 2027.
- Kenneth Krafcheck for the remainder of a three-year term through Oct. 26, 2028.
- Ann Morrison or a three-year term through May 12, 2029.
- Sharon Clark Chang for a three-year term through Feb. 11, 2029.
- Continuum of Care Board
- James Gillespie for a two-year term through May 12, 2028.
- Environmental Sustainability Committee
- Lauren Oliver for the remainder of a three-year term through Feb. 11, 2028.

Public Hearings
- Adopted the resolution approving the Solid Waste Management Plan Update. View the slide deck.
- Deferred council action to June 9 on an ordinance amending and re-enacting Chapter 38 (Environment), Article II (Noise), of the Code of City of Fairfax, pertaining to noise mitigation.
- Approved an ordinance and bond resolution authorizing the issuance of revenue bonds of the City of Fairfax, Virginia, in the maximum aggregate principal amount of $11,000,000, to finance capital costs related to the city’s sewer system capital project costs, including without limitation Noman Cole capital costs.
Work Session
- Discussed potential zoning text amendments regarding detached accessory dwelling units. View the slide deck.
- Discussed a possible increase in the compensation (salaries) paid to the mayor and the members of the city council.
