Entrepreneur Dan Ye has launched Open School Ranking, a website that ranks colleges based on return on investment and risk of closure, using data such as tuition costs, alumni salaries and enrollment trends. Ye, a Johns Hopkins University lecturer, says the site aims to provide a more realistic assessment of colleges than traditional rankings, highlighting schools like the New Jersey Institute of Technology for their strong graduate earnings.

The House has passed the No Aid for Ghost Students Act, a bill that would require the Education Department to screen federal financial aid applicants for identity fraud. The legislation largely codifies a fraud-detection system launched by the Education Department in April, which requires high-risk applicants to verify their identities. Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah, introduced the bill in response to reports of scammers using fake identities to steal federal financial aid.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is collaborating with public libraries on the Local Libraries and Generative AI project to study community responses to AI and enhance AI literacy. The two-year initiative will assess technology infrastructure, staff capacity and community attitudes toward AI, aiming to develop tailored approaches for responsible AI use.
