Principal's Message |
Greetings Tiger Families!
As we move rapidly to the final three days of the 2025-26 school year, I cannot help but notice the excitement in our hallways surrounding the World Cup soccer tournament, which kicked off yesterday. It is incredible to see our students wearing jerseys of their favorite teams and players from all corners of the globe, passionately debating Messi vs Ronaldo, Spain vs England, or how deep the US squad can reasonable advance in the tournament. To me, this tournament is far more than just a sporting event; it is a beautiful, living masterclass in the celebration of the diversity that exists within our community. Like the World Cup, Mark Twain Middle School brings together people from different cultures, traditions, and languages, uniting them under one universal ruleset where every background is valued and celebrated.
In these final days of school we will continue to celebrate the great successes of this school year, reflect upon areas where we can continue to improve, and commit to doing the important work of partnering with you on your student’s educational journey.
Enjoy this final weekend of the school year and Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Matt

Calendar Reminders: Last Day of School, Juneteenth & First Day of School
Last Day of School (Early Dismissal)
Wednesday, June 17, is the last day of school. All middle and elementary schools will operate on a two-hour early release schedule that day. Twain students will dismiss at 12:15 PM.
Juneteenth on Friday, June 19th
Next Friday we recognize Juneteenth, a celebration and commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth marks a day in 1865 when enslaved Texans learned they would be free, two months after the end of the Civil War and two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Friday, June 19, is a holiday for FCPS employees. Schools and offices will be closed.
2026-27 First Day of School
Monday, August 24, is the first day of school for the 2026-27 school year! Be sure to bookmark the 2026-27 School Year Calendar.
Celebrating Success for Multilingual Learners at Mark Twain Middle School
In a recent installment of Shining a Light on Success in FCPS, Twain Middle School celebrates the remarkable growth and achievement of its multilingual learners, highlighted by nearly 20% WIDA growth in the past year. Through the voices of educators and students, this video showcases the strength of Twain’s ESOL program, where collaboration among teachers, engaging and differentiated instruction, and a deep commitment to student success create a supportive and dynamic learning environment. Students share personal stories of growth in reading, writing, and speaking. Together, the Twain community demonstrates how embracing diversity and fostering confidence empowers students to thrive academically and beyond. You can check out the video highlighting this important work in the feature posted on Twain's website.
Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Through June, you will receive your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, you can view a list of tests by grade level on the FCPS website. Most scores are available in SIS ParentVUE. Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about how test results are reported to families.
Websites for each test provide report translations and help with understanding test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s schools with any testing questions or for additional information about how schools and teachers use test results to support student success.
Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE
Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success! Caregivers can view important information like attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores through ParentVUE.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. It is available both online and as a mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices.
Need help creating a SIS ParentVue account? This video walks through the steps. Find out more about SIS ParentVUE.
If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up to date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section of ParentVUE. Find more information and an FAQ.
Activate Your ParentVUE Account to Stay Connected
On Wednesday, July 29, FCPS families who haven't activated their ParentVUE account will receive an email with the subject “Fairfax County Public Schools ParentVUE Activation Letter.”
The email will include instructions for activating a ParentVUE account. If you don’t have an account and don’t receive the email, please check your spam folder or open a Parent Support Request. After July 29, families may also contact their school to request a printed activation letter or a new activation key, if needed.
All families are encouraged to activate their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they receive immediate access to important student information and school communications.
For assistance activating your account, please contact your child’s school. For technical support, create a Parent Support Request.

8th Grade Field Day Donation Drop-Off
Thank you to all who are donating items for our 8th Grade Field Day!
On Monday (6/15), Tuesday (6/16), and Wednesday (6/17), staff members will be out by Kiss-and-Ride before school to collect any donations parents want to drop off. Donations can also be dropped off in the main office during the school day.
After School Program Parent Survey
The Middle School After-School Program office is conducting a survey of parents/guardians to assess the quality and impact of the program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.
Participating in the survey is voluntary. Individual responses will be kept confidential and responses will be summarized at the school and division level.
The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data.
Thank you for your consideration in completing the Middle School After-School Program survey and for your support of the MS after-school program. This survey will be open from June 8, 2026 through June 12, 2026.
